I have decided my first post will be on the transition from reservist and Navy wife to just the Navy wife. Although I have given up my place in the ranks of the Navy I have gained a very important tittle. "The Gunners Wife", and there it starts. Now historically speaking this was a very fond place to be.
Along those lines, gunners were
traditionally the officers in charge of the ship’s boys. Prior to the
Victorian era, when women routinely sailed aboard Navy vessels, the
gunner’s wife would be a kind of mother to these children, some as young
as eight. Men like Horatio Nelson in the Royal Navy and Daniel Tod
Patterson in the U.S. Navy remembered with fondness the gunner’s wife
who mended their shirts and comforted them in their homesickness.
This is a job that I do at home for my girls and I plan on following Jesus lead and help other wives and families while their sailor is deployed.
I plan on doing that several ways, first I will share my experience of being a Navy wife. This will include diving a little into my faith as a follower of Jesus and my obsession with anything crafty. Photography, Scrapbooking, sewing, and making just about anything because I can.
Second I will try to offer advise (at least from my walk in life) to help those along that may be struggling. I am by no means a expert on anything but I have served in the military, been married (going on 6 years now), had 2 wonderful children, home schooled, and traveled the world. So I hope that I have picked up a few things that I can humbly pass along.
So please feel free to look around ask questions and have fun.
God Bless,
Kat
